Dollar General $5 Off $25 FAQs
What is $5 off $25 at Dollar General?
- Every Saturday, Dollar General releases a store coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase, with limited exclusions. You can find this coupon in your DG app or online at DG Digital Coupons. These coupons also print with your receipt if you shop at Dollar General throughout the week. Note that the coupons that print on Saturdays will always be for the next Saturday, so you need to shop earlier in the week if you want additional coupons for the current week.
- Pro-Tip: If using a $5 off $25 printed coupon, hand it over first BEFORE entering your phone number for all your digital coupons.
Can I stack Dollar General coupons?
- Yes. Store coupons can be stacked with manufacturer coupons to maximize your savings. Each coupon is labeled as “DG store” or “Manufacturer” right above the “Add deal” button so it is pretty easy to see which is which.
Can I stack Dollar General coupons and DG cash-back offers?
- You can stack DG store coupons with DG cash-back offers.
- You cannot stack digital manufacturer coupons with DG cash-back offers. If you have both a manufacturer coupon and cashback offer clipped, it will use the coupon first.
- You might be able to find the same cash-back offer on Ibotta. On Ibotta, it will clearly be labeled as to whether it can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. Look for the wording, “Offer not eligible for cash back when combined with other coupons and promo codes” in the details. If you do not see this exclusion, then you can stack the manufacturer coupon with Ibotta cash back. Just make sure to clip the offer before checking out.
What does old system/new system mean, and why does it matter?
- Old Systems normally have registers with a keyboard attached to the screen. When your receipt prints, the $5 off $25 coupon is attached to the same receipt, and any coupons you used will be listed under the specific item it was used for.
-
- The $5 off $25 can stack with store coupons, and your whole total before store and MFR coupons counts toward your $25 threshold.
- If your store has an old system, coupon overage can be applied to other items. Ex I have a $1/1 coupon to apply to a $1 item. With the $5 off $25, that $1 item will be reduced to like 75¢. The extra 25¢ in savings from the coupon can be applied to other items in my basket. Count the full $1 off in your calculations.
-
- New Cash register systems will have receipts with “Sale Transaction” in bold at the top. The $5 off $25 coupon prints on a separate receipt right after your transaction receipt. Any coupons you use will be all grouped at the bottom of your receipt, not under each item.
-
- The $5 off $25 can stack with store coupons but will only come off if you meet the $25 threshold after all store coupons. All DG store coupons are applied first, kind of like instant savings, so you need to increase your total to match the coupon.
- You cannot stack store coupons. Ex $3 off $15 Gain DG store coupon cannot stack with $1.05 Gain store coupon.
- Coupons will be adjusted down to amount paid. Ex I have a $1/1 coupon to apply to a $1 item. With the $5 off $25, that $1 item will be reduced to like 75¢. The coupon will be adjusted down to only take off the 75¢ I paid.
-
How do I calculate my $25 total?
- Add up all items at their sale price, not regular price.
- Any instant store savings should be treated like a sale so you’d need to increase your total to get the $5 off $25 to work. Example: The ad shows $5 off $15 Colgate Instant savings. I need to spend $30 to use the $5 off $25.
- Your total must be $25 after all sale prices and instant savings in order for the $5 off $25 to apply.
- Your $25 total might also be affected by DG store coupons depending if your store has a new system or old system. See the section above for details.
How do Buy One, Get One Free Sales and coupons work with the $5 off 25 coupon?
- For BOGO sales, only count the cost of one item toward your $25 total.
- For BOGO manufacturer coupons (digital or paper), count both items toward your $25 total.
Will my prices always match your scenarios?
- No. Prices may vary by location.
Do all Dollar Generals carry the same items?
- No. Not all stores carry the same products. Some stores may be out of stock on certain items.
How do I “unclip” a coupon?
- Unfortunately, you cannot unclip coupons for Dollar General. Be careful to clip the highest-value coupon and not the lowest value if you have two digital coupons for the same product. The lowest-value coupon will always come off first. Go here for the full coupon policy.
I want to thank you very much for your list. It has been a life saver for my family, and my coworkers. Thank you for what you do.
You are welcome!
so if your store doesnt let you do the 5/25 plus do the whatever it is off gain products you could take a paper 5/25 and they would except that to go with the gain coupon? (the coupon thats like 5 off 20 or 5 off 30 if u buy all gain products)just making sure i read that right
