Claire’s— your go-to for tween jewelry and ear-piercing—has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in seven years. The company is now planning to close 1,325 total locations (Claire’s + Icing stores) by October.
Claire’s cited a “cocktail” of issues—from crushing debt and tough competition to rising tariffs and declining mall traffic—as the cause of its troubles.
In the first wave of closures, 18 U.S. stores have already been identified for closure by early September. Here’s the current list:

- Market Street, Lynnfield, Massachusetts
- Woodinville Plaza, Washington
- Provo Town Center, Utah
- Newpark Mall, Newark, California
- Shops at Highland Village, Texas
- Pinnacle at Turkey Creek, Tennessee
- Union Town Mall, Pennsylvania
- Ford City Mall, Chicago, Illinois
- Northtown Mall, Blaine, Minnesota
- Bay City Town Center, Michigan
- Eastdale Mall, Montgomery, Alabama
- Junction Commons, Park City, Utah
- Livingston Mall, New Jersey
Icing stores closing:
- Galleria at Tyler, Riverside, California
- Mall of Abilene, Texas
- Greece Ridge (Rochester), New York
- University Orem, Utah
