1. Download the Kroger App First
Before you shop, download the Kroger app and create a free Kroger account. You can also create an account online.
The app lets you:
- Clip digital coupons
- Track Weekly Digital Deals
- Scan items for prices (make sure it’s set to the right store location and your phone works as a price checker!)
- Check your fuel points
- Shop pickup & delivery deals
2. Understand Kroger Digital Coupons
Kroger offers several types of coupons and savings programs that can stack together for huge grocery savings.
- Weekly Digital Deals
- These limited-time Kroger digital coupons usually work up to 5 times per transaction. Kroger recently updated the policy, so you can now use them across unlimited transactions — just keep it to 5 items per transaction for the coupon to apply correctly.
- These are often the BEST deals in the weekly ad.
- Officially, Weekly Digital Deals are not supposed to combine with digital manufacturer coupons. Unofficially? We’ve seen them stack MANY times.
- 5x Digital Coupons & Store Coupons
- Kroger regularly offers special 5x digital coupon events with high-value store coupons that can be used up to 5 times per transaction.
- These often stack with clearance prices on regular store shelves (not stickered clearance), which can lead to some incredible deals.
- Kroger Cash Back
- The Kroger app also offers cashback rebates, many of which are similar to Ibotta offers.
- These rebates usually do NOT combine with digital coupons.
- After checkout, cashback rewards are added to your account and can be transferred to your Shopper’s Card or PayPal account once available.
- Manufacturer Digital Coupons
- These can often be combined with Kroger sales, store coupons, and cashback apps — this is where the biggest savings happen!
- Kroger also accepts paper manufacturer coupons, limited to 2 identical coupons per day.
- Best Customer Exclusive Coupons
- These personalized Kroger coupons are based on your shopping habits and often include free items or high-value discounts.
- Depending on your settings, they may arrive as paper coupons in the mail or digitally in your Kroger account every 4–6 weeks.
- Kroger Verified Savings for EBT Customers
- Government assistance recipients may qualify for special Kroger discounts, including offers like 20% off produce and other grocery savings.
3. Know the Kroger Sales & Mega Events
Kroger sales can get confusing fast, but once you understand how Mega Events and store promotions work, the savings add up QUICK.
- Kroger Mega Events = some of the BEST deals
- Kroger regularly runs Mega Events where you save extra when buying 5 or more participating items.
- You do NOT need to buy 5 of the same item — any participating products count toward the total.
- Once you hit 5 items, the discount automatically applies to every qualifying item in your cart.
- These sales stack beautifully with digital coupons, cashback apps, and even some clearance deals.
- Look for hidden Mega Event clearance deals
- Some clearance items on regular shelves still qualify for Mega Event pricing, leading to CRAZY cheap finds.
- We’ve scored shampoo for 19¢, pantry staples for 9¢, dish soap for 49¢, and more.
- Heads up: when Mega Events start, stores sometimes replace green/yellow clearance tags with blue Mega Event tags, so scan shelves carefully for hidden markdowns.
- BOGO sales are good — but not always the best
- Kroger runs Buy One Get One Free deals every week on rotating items.
- These usually work out to about 50% off retail price, but Weekly Digital Deals and Mega Event sales often provide even better savings.
- 10/$10 sales don’t require buying 10
- At Kroger, sales like 10/$10 or 2/$5 typically ring up at the individual sale price automatically.
- You can buy just one item and still get the discount.
- Mega Events are the main exception since they require a minimum qualifying purchase.
- Watch for seasonal Kroger promotions
- Kroger also runs special savings events throughout the year, including Online Deal Days and holiday promotions like 12 Merry Days during Christmas.

4. Watch for Kroger Clearance
Kroger clearance deals can lead to some of the BEST grocery savings — especially when they stack with digital coupons or Mega Event sales.
-
- Look for dedicated clearance sections
- Many Kroger stores have special clearance areas with closeout items marked down using clearance stickers over the barcode.
- Depending on how the item is marked down, digital coupons may or may not apply.
- Every department has its own clearance area
- Fresh meat markdowns are usually found on the bottom shelf at one end of the meat case.
- Bakery clearance items are often placed on rolling carts near the bakery or dairy section.
- Refrigerated produce usually stays in the produce section with markdown stickers placed front and center for quick sale.
- For non-refrigerated produce, look for baskets or shelves filled with discounted apples, oranges, and near-ripe produce bags.
- Bonus tip for cheap bananas 🍌
- Look for over-ripe bananas in boxes under the regular display. Many stores price them lower using code 4237 instead of the standard 4011 banana code.
- Watch for hidden clearance on regular shelves
- Some of the BEST Kroger clearance deals are mixed in with regular inventory and marked with green or yellow tags.
- These shelf clearance items often still work with 5x digital coupons and Mega Event discounts.
- Watch for seasonal clearance markdowns
- The best seasonal clearance deals usually happen the day after major holidays like Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and July 4th.
- Kroger seasonal clearance usually follows a markdown cycle of 30% off, then 50%, 70%, and eventually 90% off if inventory remains. Sometimes the 30% and 50% start even before the holiday arrives!
- This is one of the BEST ways to score super cheap holiday candy, party supplies, home decor, seasonal snacks, gift sets, and more.
- Don’t skip the floral department either! Seasonal flowers, plants, and holiday arrangements often get heavily discounted and the discounts are much faster.
- Look for balloons too! I’ve gotten huge mylar Mother’s Day balloons for FREE on Mother’s Day evening.
- Look for dedicated clearance sections

5. Pickup & Delivery Deals Are Often Better
Kroger pickup and delivery orders often unlock exclusive savings you won’t find in-store.
- Look for pickup & delivery-only coupons
- Kroger frequently offers online-exclusive deals like free delivery, $10 off $75 orders, and 20% off select brands.
- Some pickup days even offer bonus fuel points that beat the regular Friday 4x fuel points promotion.
- Don’t miss the hidden online markdowns
- Before checkout, Kroger often adds special online-only discounts on meat, bakery items, desserts, and other groceries.
- These deals can feel like shopping clearance from your couch — and many aren’t discounted in-store.
- ⚠️ Important warning about sale prices
- Your pickup or delivery date determines your Kroger sale prices.
- The weekly ad resets early Wednesday morning, so avoid placing Tuesday orders unless you’re picking up or receiving delivery the same day.
- If your order rolls into Wednesday, your prices can change overnight when the new weekly ad begins.
6. Don’t Forget the Fuel Points
Kroger Fuel Points can lead to HUGE gas savings if you know how to maximize them.
- How Kroger Fuel Points work
- You earn 1 fuel point for every $1 spent at Kroger.
- Every 100 fuel points equals 10¢ off per gallon at Kroger Fuel Centers and participating partner gas stations.
- You can redeem up to 1,000 points for $1 off per gallon on up to 35 gallons of fuel.
- Best ways to earn extra fuel points
- 4x fuel points on gift cards — Kroger regularly offers digital coupons for bonus fuel points on gift card purchases.
- Buying gift cards for places you already shop, like Home Depot or restaurants, can turn everyday spending into major gas savings.
- Example: A $100 gift card earning 4x fuel points gives you 400 fuel points, equal to 40¢ off per gallon — up to $14 in gas savings on a full tank.
- More ways to maximize Kroger fuel rewards
- Clip the weekly Friday digital coupon for 4x fuel points on groceries.
- Kroger Boost members earn 2x fuel points every day.
- Pickup and delivery orders sometimes offer bonus fuel point promotions that beat the standard Friday offer.
7. Consider joining Kroger Boost!
- A Boost Essential Membership is $69/yr and a regular Boost Membership is $99/yr. Plus, they do special events yearly that will score you half off either of these memberships!
- Boost members get Disney or Hulu free!
- Special coupons just for Boost members – these often stack with sales and manufacturer digital coupons for epic savings!
- 2x fuel points EVERY day!
- FREE Grocery Delivery from Kroger Delivery service (Tips not accepted)
8. Use Cashback Apps for Stackable Savings
After shopping, upload your receipt to cashback apps like Fetch and Ibotta. When stacked with coupons (where applicable), these rebates often make for super cheap items or even freebies!
- Note that Ibotta will have special wording on their offers when it cannot be stacked with coupons. Trying to use them with digital coupons can get your account closed.
