If you’ve been around The Freebie Guy for a while, you know Kendall isn’t exactly known for turning down dessert. 😂
So when Kendall could only describe these double chocolate cookies with one long, enthusiastic, deep-from-the-soul “goooooood,” the rest of the team knew we had to make them… and then share the recipe with y’all. And y’all…they really are that good.
They’re rich, ridiculously chocolatey, perfectly soft in the middle, and finished with just a sprinkle of flaky sea salt that takes them over the top. They’re the kind of cookies that disappear way faster than you planned…so don’t say we didn’t warn you.
The best part? They’re surprisingly easy to make, and you can customize them with your favorite chocolate chips or baking add-ins.
This recipe makes about 22-24 regular cookies or around 16 bakery-sized cookies if you like them big (which is exactly how we made them!).

What You’ll Need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar (make sure it’s soft and fresh)
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips (or swap in semi-sweet, dark chocolate, white chocolate, or peanut butter chips)
- Flaky sea salt

Let’s Bake!
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Using a stand mixer or a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and both sugars until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla bean paste and mix until combined.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients on low speed until everything is just incorporated. Don’t overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Scoop 1-2 tablespoon portions onto your prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie.
- Top each cookie with a few extra chocolate chips and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes.
- Let them cool for a few minutes…or eat one warm because, honestly, that’s the best way.

These cookies are seriously rich (in the best way possible). Pair one with a cold glass of milk, warm one up and top it with vanilla ice cream, or just sneak one every time you walk through the kitchen. We won’t judge.
If you’re making these for a party, family get-together, holiday, or just because it’s Tuesday, don’t expect leftovers.

One More Thing…
While you’re here, don’t forget to check out our latest food deals! Y’all know us for sharing the best deals and freebies, but every now and then we like to share something that’s just too good to keep to ourselves—and Kendall insisted this cookie recipe was one of those things.
If you make them, let us know what you think. Fair warning though…they might just become your new favorite cookie, too.
