What’s This Class Action Settlement About?
The lawsuit claims the National Association of REALTORS and certain residential real estate brokerages engaged in anticompetitive conduct that kept real estate broker commissions artificially high. Class members claim this practice harmed homebuyers by increasing home prices and reducing the quality of buyer-broker services.
Who Qualifies for the Settlement?
Anyone who purchased a home on a Multiple Listing Service anywhere in the United States and paid a commission to brokerages in connection with the purchase and the purchase occurred during the applicable Class Period.
Home sellers generally do not qualify based solely on selling a home.
How Much Money Can You Get?
The settlement provides a combined $120.33 million global settlement fund and individual payments will be distributed on a pro-rata basis after attorney fees and costs. The payment amount will depend on factors including the number of valid claims submitted, the number of properties purchased and the amount of commissions paid in qualifying claims.
Is Proof Required?
When submitting a claim, you must provide proof of your qualifying home purchase. Examples of acceptable proof include, a closing statement, settlement statement, HUD statement or other transaction documents from the house purchase and closing.
