The new “Click to Cancel” consumer protection regulation has come into effect! This regulation is aimed at simplifying the process of ending subscriptions and services. It is now mandated that if a consumer signed up for a service online or through other electronic means, they must also be able to cancel it in the same way.
The days of complex cancellation procedures, often involving multiple phone calls or long wait times has come to end. The “Click to Cancel” regulation is expected to empower consumers by giving them more control over subscriptions and saving time. This is aimed to reduce frustration and promote transparency in business practices so consumers don’t become trapped into subscriptions.
This rule could have significant impact on companies like streaming services, fitness memberships, and software subscriptions.
Note: Businesses don’t have to comply until May 14. This could lead to legal and political challenges.
