This Class Action Settlement Affects:
Any owner and lessee of certain 2011 to 2022 Hyundai and Kia vehicles that were not equipped with an engine immobilizer and experienced a qualifying vehicle theft or attempted theft on or after April 29, 2025.
What’s This Class Action Settlement About?
The lawsuit claims Hyundai and Kia vehicles lacked factory installed engine immobilizers, making them more vulnerable to theft methods popularized on social media.
Who Qualifies for the Settlement?
You may qualify if you own or lease an eligible Hyundai or Kia and experienced a qualifying theft or attempted theft on or after April 29, 2025. At the time of the theft or attempted theft, the vehicle must have already received that software upgrade or you must have proof showing you had an appointment scheduled to receive it.
Eligible vehicles include Hyundai Elantra, Sonata, Tucson, Santa Fe, Kona and Kia Forte, Optima, Soul, Sportage and more!
How Much Money Can You Get?
Eligible owners and lessees may receive:
- Up to $4,500 for a qualifying total vehicle loss due to theft.
- Up to $2,250 for a qualifying partial vehicle loss due to theft.
- Up to $375 for reasonable expenses related to a qualifying attempted theft.
Is Proof Required?
Yes, you must provide proof that you had the software upgrade or had an appointment scheduled at the time of the qualifying theft or attempted theft. Additional documentation may be required depending on the type of claim submitted.
